Before electricity and the affect of unnatural or man-made light women would ovulate when the moon was full and bleed when it was dark (this also may be reversed). At the point of the most light the moon produces during a full moon women's bodies are programmed to react but for most women today, sadly this doesn't happen. Women who live in country areas are much more likely to naturally cycle with the moon due to them being around less light pollution. This does not mean though that if you are living in the city you have to miss out on this magical connection, it will just take more effort (so worth it!)
The concept of women bleeding being a sacred time, dates back to the ancient Egyptians where it was accepted that a woman was at her spiritual peak whilst menstruating. Every new cycle a woman has is an opportunity to not only be aware of imbalances within the physical body but also an opportunity to grow spiritually by having a greater sense of self awareness. Drugs like the pill rid women of these opportunities and suppress our true goddess abilities.
Here are some ways you can increase your chances of cycling with the moon:
- Don't take the pill
- Observe the moon at night, become aware of the changes from waxing to waning and pay particular attention to the full moon and how you react to it (a full moon journal helps)
- Make an effort to be around nature on a full moon, see it as a regular opportunity to experience feminine energy with your girlfriends
- Keep a garden space where you can grow plants and herbs, watch them grow and flourish with your care and energy exchanged which in turn gives thanks to Mother Gaia by being a part of the creation (not destruction) of life
- Wear moonstone crystals regularly, These crystals are intrinsically connected to the moon as the name suggests and will create a deeper connection to you and the moon. It also encourages the acceptance of psychic gifts
Women have the ability to connect with each other and nature through their cycles. It is a beautiful time that has been given an unfair and ignorant stigma. Every woman should have the opportunity to feel deeply connected to their own body and its needs as well as other women's too. We have a chance every month to further our spiritual development and quest for self awareness that without our menstrual cycle may not be achieved so why not give it the best chance to do so and learn to love yourself and all your divine feminine energy.
